Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Senior Vista Adult Day Care - answered honestly and clearly

GENERAL QUESTIONS

Q: What is adult day care?

Adult day care is a daytime program (typically 7am-6pm) where seniors receive professional care, engaging activities, meals, and social interaction in a safe, supervised environment. It's designed for older adults who need supervision or assistance during the day but don't require 24-hour nursing home care.

Adult day care is ideal for families where:

- The primary caregiver works during the day

- The senior is isolated or lonely at home

- The senior has dementia or memory loss

- The family caregiver needs relief from 24/7 caregiving

Q: What hours is Senior Vista open?

Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 6:00pm. We're closed on weekends and major holidays.

Q: Do you offer weekend or evening care?

Not at this time. We're open Monday-Friday, 7am-6pm. If you need weekend or evening care, we're happy to recommend other resources in the area.

Q: What areas do you serve?

We're located on State Road 7 in Margate and serve families throughout

Broward County, including:

- Margate

CARE & SAFETY

Q: What kind of staff do you have?

Our staff includes:
- Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs)
- Home Health Aides (HHAs)
- Trained activity coordinators

All staff members have experience in elder care and receive ongoing training in dementia care, fall prevention, emergency response, and therapeutic activities.

We do NOT have Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) or Registered Nurses (RNs) on staff, but our CNAs and HHAs are fully qualified to provide personal care, health monitoring, and assistance with daily activities.

Q: What is your staff-to-participant ratio?

We maintain a ratio that ensures every participant receives attentive, personalized care. Our exact ratio depends on the number of participants and their care needs, but we prioritize quality over quantity.

Ask about our current ratio when you tour the facility.

Q: What if my loved one has a medical emergency?

Our staff is trained in first aid, CPR, and emergency response. If a medical emergency occurs:

1. We call 911 immediately if needed

2. We contact you right away

3. We're located directly next to HCA Florida Northwest Hospital

We also maintain emergency contact information and medical histories for every participant so first responders have the information they need.

Q: Do you administer medications?

We provide medication reminders and can assist with self-administration (we hand you the medication and you take it yourself). We do NOT administer injections or handle complex medication management that requires a licensed nurse. If your loved one needs help taking oral medications, we can assist. Bring medications in their original containers with clear dosing instructions.

Q: What if my loved one uses a wheelchair or walker?

Our facility is wheelchair and walker accessible. Our staff is trained in transfer assistance, mobility support, and fall prevention. We welcome participants who use mobility aids

Q: Is your facility licensed and insured?

Yes. Senior Vista Adult Day Care is fully licensed as an Adult Day Care Center in Florida and carries comprehensive liability insurance.

Q: What happens if my loved one gets sick while at Senior Vista?

If your loved one shows signs of illness (fever, vomiting, contagious symptoms), we'll call you immediately to pick them up. This protects other participants from exposure. If they have a chronic condition (diabetes, heart condition, etc.) that's managed, that's fine - we can monitor and assist as needed.

ENROLLMENT & GETTING STARTED

Q: How do I get started?

1. Call (954) 366-1212 to schedule a free tour

2. Visit the facility, meet our staff, ask questions

3. Complete enrollment paperwork (we'll help you)

4. Choose your start date and days

5. Your loved one begins care!

Most families are enrolled and started within 1-2 weeks.

Q: Do I need a doctor's referral?

No, you don't need a formal doctor's referral. However, we do require:

- Basic medical history

- Current medication list

- TB (tuberculosis) test results (within past 12 months)

We'll provide all necessary forms during enrollment.

Q: How many days per week does my loved one need to attend?

You choose! Options include:

- 1-2 days per week (trial or occasional care)

- 3-4 days per week (part-time care)

- 5 days per week (full-time care)

Many families start with 2-3 days per week and increase once their loved one is comfortable. You can adjust the schedule as needed.

Q: Can we do a trial period?

Absolutely! Many families start with 1-2 days per week to see how their loved one adjusts. There's no long-term commitment required. We recommend giving it at least 3-4 visits before making a final decision, as it often takes a few days for participants to feel comfortable in a new environment.

Q: What if my parent refuses to come?

This is very common! Many participants are initially resistant but end up loving it once they experience the activities, make friends, and realize it's a positive environment.

Tips that help:

- Bring them for a tour first so it's not a surprise

- Start with just 1-2 days per week

- Frame it as "going to spend time with friends" rather than "day care"

- Stay positive and upbeat (they pick up on your emotions)

- Give it 3-4 visits before deciding it's not working

We're experienced in helping families through this transition.

Q: How long does enrollment take?

Once we have all required paperwork (medical history, TB test, payment info), most families are enrolled within 1-3 business days. Your loved one can often start within the same week!

If you need to start sooner due to an urgent situation, let us know and we'll do our best to accommodate.

During your tour, please be open about any behavioral challenges so we can assess if we're equipped to safely care for your loved one. We'll be honest about whether we can meet their needs.
